What is passive fire & smoke protection?
Passive Fire and smoke protection is the process of sealing areas of buildings to stop the spread of fire and smoke.
How does passive fire and smoke protection help the building owner?
Passive fire protection assists in making your building complaint for your local council Building of Warrant of Fitness (BWOF) and helps with your building consents. It also gives the building owner peace of mind, that their building has a higher “safety rating”.
How do we know that a building needs fire protection?
If building consents are applied for, it is most likely you will need to address any passive fire protection issues for sign off.

Do we need Passive Fire our current buildings?
We have found that many older buildings have limited or no passive fire sealing work.
Passive fire is now required and included in all building consent works. It may have a bearing on your insurance policy and tenancy agreements.
